Journey of Mystic Lost, Revisited: mini exhibition at Bangkok Time, Japan

  

         Opened in December 2012, Bangkok Time Cafe & Bar is a new hip place in Fukuoka Japan. They hold exhibitions by emerging Thai artist and I was invited to be the first one on the show! Very much honoured. The works displayed are from my 2011 series "Journey of Mystic Lost", recreated to fit the atmosphere and the space.

Donmaung Artworkshop: Fairytale illustrated

 I was asked by Donmaung Songkhaor Charity to organise a 1 day workshop for selected students from the 3 local schools in the district. Originally from Donmaung myself, I thought it would be a great chance to connect with the younger generation in the community and inspired them with my own journey. The workshop was themed around "Fairytale" as it was quite accessible to the avarage age of the group:8-10 years old. I first expected only a few to turned up but there were in total 75 very eager participants came for the workshop. It was a full-on day but the thought of having inspired the kids from my own home town made it all worthy.

Teaching at CARIS summer camp (Olympic Edition)

             In summer 2012, I was invited to be a guest teacher at CARIS (Christian Action and Response In Society), a charity in Harringay. The children were having a great time in their Olympic theme activity-packed summer camp, and I get to organise a one day workshop for them. Working with my beloved illustrators and tutors Gary Powell and Andrew Foster, as well as Kanitta Meechubot, we came up with "making the news" sessions where a group of kids get to make their own report of the Olympic. The headlines includes: "who I was with when I saw the Olympic?", "The heart of the game", "my favorite sport star", etc. At the end I also chose a few works to put together as a program of their summer camp closing ceremony. Working with the small kids (age 5 to 12) was a real challenge for me, their attention span and ability are very different from any other age group I had tought. At the end of the day though, it all came down together really well! They all did had a great time and their artwork reflects what the Olympic is really about for me; it bring people together. The kids left the center with smilling faces and that gave a big smile on mine as well.

Workshop at Wallace Collection with Erin Petson

     

      On 13th of October 2012, Fashion illustrator Erin Petson asked me to assist her with her Fashion illustration workshop at the Wallace Collection. The museum being one of my favorites in London, I said yes right away! Working with Erin was so inspiring. Although she's one of today's top fashion illustrators, she is extremely nice and generous with the girls. She showed her techniques and interesting appoarch of drawing inspired from the Baroque art collection in the museum. It's a small class of 12 students (all girls!) so they all get to draw and model and fully participate in the lesson.

Mural painting at Queen Of Hoxton

       On 24th of October 2012, my collective KAOS (with my fellow CSM grads Kanitta Meecubot and Su Kyung Lee) was commissioned to do a mural live painting for the relauch of the infamous Queen Of Hoxton Pub in shoreditch. The theme was "Dance to the heart beat" as we combined Kanitta's love of anatomy, Su's detailed patterns and my sense of movement together. It took 3 days to paint the whole space of their ground floor. It was really fun especially with live audience on the opening day. The mural will stay there till summer 2013 so do drop by and have a look for yourself.

Mural painting at Baan Hollanda Museum, the Netherlands Embassy

       Commissioned by the Dutch Embassy, this mural was an illustration based on the early Dutch settlement in Ayuthaya (old capital of Thailand). It was based on the old ship's map which were drawn by the Dutch in the 17th century. It was a very honorable job for me to bring history back to life with a playful appoarch. The museum itself is located at the exact original location of the early Dutch settlement, and the mural is located on the reception of the museum (first thing you see as you walked in). Therefore its aim is to draw attention of the visitors at first sight and make them want to study more about the history behind this museum.

Guest artist @ Channel V Thailand

     Channel V Thailand asked me to drop by at their studio and did some life painting. The show was a live recording session on air on 27th January 2012.

Short course at Central Saint Martins

       In July 2011, I had a great opportunity to run a short course of Graphic Design for 16-18 years old at my own university, Central Saint Martins. I just couldnt believe how creative the students were! so bright and full of creative energy as they tackled the given briefs.  The images were taken from the "create a 3D word" brief. Each group really did a great job bringing their chosen word to life with light-sculpture, photographs, installations and so on.

Speed Drawing Workshop at V&A

      As part of the V&A Summer Camp in August 2011, I helped the amazing artist Alexa Galea with her Speed Drawing workshop, combining the objects in the V&A collections and the art of illustration in a very speedy amount of time! Drawings were then hung in the Summer Camp Gallery and prizes awarded to the most creative artworks.

Teaching at Sakeaw Rathanavit School

        In January 2011, I organise a small illustration workshop at Sakear Rathanavit school in Nakornsri Thammarat, South of Thailand. The theme of the class was to paint the portrait of the King. There were 12 students chosen to participate in the class but a lot more keep dropping by as everyone was so keen to draw and paint! It sadden me that in their school's library only had about 10 books on art, so I tried to give them as much knowledge as I could. Although it was a small job in the middle of nowhere, it really give so much inspiration to these kids. Each and every moment of if was filled with happiness and smiles, as you can see! 

Painting with Pomme for Singha Draft Beer Launch in London

 

On Saturday 19th November 2011, I had a great fun helping the talented Pomme Chan with her commission to promote the launch of Singha Draft Beer in London. We painted a big triptych which we given away to some lucky winners at the end of the night. The Event was held at Vibe Bar, in Bricklane, London. Feel great to promote something from my own country of Thailand :) You can view the full campaign here.
